Are data governance regulations drivers for enhanced IT business value and efficiency?
LinkedIn: DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION – Michael Surkan has some interesting thoughts on positive aspects of technology disruption related to Government regulations. He says that “Regulations are the often the bane of businesses. Government rules can often add costs and unnecessary complexity to the business. Sometimes, however, regulations can be good for business.”
He wonders, “if this isn’t the case with the regulations emerging around data governance? Recently, I was struck by how much the recommendations for dealing with data management regulations of one white paper seemed just like the best practices IT managers should be doing anyway. Forget regulatory compliance, if your data sits in silos that can’t be integrated and have no authorization controls you are in a very poor position to deliver value to the business.”
